XTC + IXL...

INXS is an Australian group formed in 1977 in Sydney which enjoyed enormous success from 1982 to 1992. The adventure begins when Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence meet in the group "Doctor Dolphin". Then in 1977, it was Tim Farriss, Andrew’s brother who created the group "Farriss Brothers", a group joined by Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence. Group with very modest success. But things suddenly accelerate when they meet in 1978 the manager of "Midnight Oil" who offers to do the first part of the group's concerts. And it is a member of "Midnight Oil" who finds them the name of "INXS", which would be a subtle mixture between the name of the English group XTC and the Australian manufacturer of jams IXL. The first album of the group name was released in 1980, which contained their first Single "Just keep walking". Followed in 1981 by a second Single "Underneath the colors" which met with some success in Australia. But it was 1982 that saw them take off with the release of the album "Shabooh shoobah" which produced the Single "The one thing" which hit North America. 1984 will be the year that will completely change their fate with the release of the album "The swing" but especially of the now cult "Original sin" which is a worldwide hit. Except in England…. 1985 is the year of the release of the album "Listen like thieves" and contains the hit "What you need". Album that finally opens the doors of England to them. Two years elapse before the album released in 1987 which will propel them to the firmament, namely "Kick" and which contains another cult hit, namely "Need you tonight", but also "Devil inside" and "Never tear us apart ". 1990 will see the release of the album "X", also a success which contains the Single hit "Suicide blonde" inspired by a certain ... Kylie Minogue! This success will unfortunately be their last major one. And the adventure will definitely end in drama when Michael Hutchence commits suicide in 1997 at first glance after a dispute over the custody of his daughter that he would have had with Paula Yates. INXS will forever remain the flagship Australian group of the 1980s ahead of Midnight Oil, Men at Work and Ice House. Both by the quantity and the quality of the hits produced. Only by the personality of its singer today entering far too prematurely into the world musical Pantheon. To discover or rediscover...

1980...a very first title to try to get people talking about themselves in a positive way. On this one it will be a missed objective unfortunately...

1980 ... INXS in short pants, surreal beginnings that leave nothing to imagine the absolutely HUGE suite looming on the horizon concerning them ...

1981 ... the rise is linear and shows that there is talent in this group. At this stage, difficult to quantify ...

1981 ... the "little ones" have grown ... the style is refined, the Sound too. We feel that something big will happen, but when and how, no one knows yet ...

1982...it won't be on this title but whatever the main thing is that the group is in working order and it shows, above all it can be heard !

1982...nor on this one. After all, a career is built over the long term and you have to give time as they say...

1982 ... something has changed anyway, it's obvious. The group has matured in spectacular fashion and the results in the Charts fly away like magic...

1982 ... this one will do a little worse than its predecessor but it is clear that the group is in full ascension phase and that the best is therefore to come !

1983 ... the sound becomes super trendy and the group sticks perfectly to the new standards of the moment. It smells good !

1983...it is clear that 1983 will not stay as their best vintage but given what is on the horizon, there is no need to worry about them...

1984 ... then comes THIS title ! A transcosmic hit that will change everything and that will undoubtedly remain one of the biggest Dance hits of the 80s and of the end of the XXth century. A title which elevates the members of the group to the rank of planetary stars. MAS-TER-FUL !

1984 ... a quality suite but which struggles to compete with the previous gem as the bar has been set high. What is certain, however, is that the great fireworks display has just started !

1984...a third subdued title to close a year that was in any case exceptional for the group. And the year is not over yet...

1984...certainly the year will end in a much less favorable way than at its beginning but it doesn't matter, the success is there and it is not ready to disappear...

1985 ... a year that started again on the wheel hats with this title with the obvious potato. Now that the group has perfectly mastered its style, it's rolling out !

1985 ... title after title, song after song, the group clearly stands out as one of the biggest phenomena of the moment. And let's go to last !

1986 ... transition phase before "INXS Season 2" and all the mega hits that go with it. Because for now, we are only at the top hits, it is to say what is on the horizon ...

1986 ... the next time we find them, that is to say next year, they will have further increased their level of play. It is to say !

1987 ... there are 'good times' between friends, that can't be denied. The proof with this pulsating title, to say the least !

1987 ... new interplanetary hit ! The mega tube that definitively consecrates them as one of the biggest groups of the 80s. An extraordinary know-how that literally outclasses and crushes the competition. MO-NU-MEN-TAL !

1988 ... the devil with the body, a unfortunately premonitory title for Michael Hutchence. The group gets its 2nd global mega hit here and has absolutely no intention of stopping there ...

1988 ... the mega hits follow one another at a truly astounding speed. Inspiration is at its best and does not falter by an Iota title after title. HU-GE !

1988 ... 1984 was a very great vintage for the group but 1987 is not bad either. After the mega Dance hits, this one gives us a Ultimate Slow of the very first choice. MA-GIC !

1988...in an ocean of mega hits, certain titles manage to pass more or less under the radar. This will unfortunately be the case with this one...

1989 ... another year of transition ... with only one small title on the clock. But when you see what is coming, there is really nothing to worry about !

1990 ... a change of decade perfectly successful and which sees the group at the height of its possibilities. So much so that they obtain here the biggest commercial success of their whole career. Thanks who, thanks Kylie ! A-MA-ZING !

1990 ... the group literally walks on water and everything he produces immediately turns into solid gold. True demigods !

1991 ... not necessarily their best title but when you see its classification in the Charts, for most of the other groups, it would be the title of their life !

1991 ... in an ocean of mega Dance hits, the group likes to settle down for a while and produce this kind of song. Great ideas guys !

1991...certain titles are so much in the shadow of those that preceded them that it is impossible for them to exist in broad daylight. This will be the case for this one...

1991 ... another exceptional Cru with no less than 3 mega hits for the year 1991. A dynamic which does not weaken and which continues to carry them high, very high !

1992.. a year 1992 which starts almost on the same bases as the previous one. The level of inspiration is always - and still - at its maximum. A truly amazing longevity !

1992 ... straddling two styles, not necessarily theirs, or that of others. A piece to say the least amazing and that works again !

1992 ... we feel that something is happening in terms of sound, with a more aggressive sound and which evolves towards musical standards which were not necessarily theirs until then ...

1992 ... the 'little' hit of the year. A level of success that remains largely enough to keep them within the Elite. Nothing to worry about yet ...

1993 ... especially when we see how the year 1993 starts again. New mega hit which shows that the group still has a hell of a lot under the pedal !

1993 ... the group has too much want to stick to the new standards begins to get lost. The level of inspiration drops and the result is inevitably felt ...

1993 ... and trying to get the duo hit with a legend will not change much at the start of the decline. Even the big Ray will not be able to reverse the trend ...

1993 ... the fall accelerates and the dropout in the Charts is more and more obvious. We suspected that the group was not going to continue on such a level of success for decades and decades ...

1994...a year 1994 which will confirm the sharp deceleration suffered by the group in the middle of the 90s. Be careful, danger...

1994...their worst year since almost their debut in terms of results in the Charts. Nothing is going right in the INXS war machine and it is time to get back on track. Unfortunately, it is a totally unexpected and tragic recovery that will take place in the years that follow...

1994...a title which will not be released as a Single but which it would have been a shame to hide. So here it is brought back to light as it should be...

1994...same for this one. It must be said that when albums are full of tracks of certain quality, you have to make careful choices...

1994...certainly the level of success fell sharply but the qualitative level nevertheless remains high, that much is clear...

1997 ... the last notorious hit ... before the final and dramatic epilogue which will see the death in full glory of Michael Hutchence. Sad ending...

1997 ... a year 1997 yet rich in titles but we feel that the group is coming to the end of the race. Like his singer unfortunately ...

1997 ... the last hit of the decade and again, a very small one. The end of an exceptional adventure for one of the largest groups at the end of the 20th century. An adventure that could have produced beautiful things, but when fate gets involved, nothing and no one can stop it ...

1997...the last title of a year which will remain for the group as that of the totally sudden and at least totally unexpected disappearance of its natural leader...

2001...it is clear that everything that will come out thereafter will only be a posthumous title or a title revisited by others. We take whatever it takes...

2001...the remixes will bloom like flowers in spring and allow a significant number of other artists to give free rein to their imagination...

2002...we will also see old titles that remained in the boxes resurface. This is often the case after the tragic episode that the group experienced a few years previously...

2003...remixing a group also means paying a form of homage to it since we consider that the title we are revisiting is now a 'classic' of music...

2003...the group will try to be reborn without its natural leader but this is almost mission impossible unfortunately...

2004...they will have at least tried. But this is where we really realize what weight the leader had many years after his death...

2004...the remixes continue to flourish and the group therefore continues to exist through these revisited versions, which in itself is a good thing...

2004...it must be said that with so much 'material' there is enough to do that for sure. Remixes that will continue to flourish for years and years, even decades...

2005...new attempt to revive the group with a new singer. Unfortunately you can't replace a singer like Michael Hutchence that easily...

2006...it starts from a good feeling but it never works with groups of such a level because it is often the natural singer who alone made all the difference...

2006...afterwards, as in music everything remains possible, they had to at least try to see if this substitution would work or not...

2006...whatever it is, it's the core fans who rejoice with each new opus. Afterwards, the purists went elsewhere as soon as Hutchence disappeared...

2006...the group remains at a significant qualitative level, we are not going to deny it. It's just the little extra that made all the difference that disappeared during 1997...

2010...back to the revisited versions and the least we can say is that this one will not stay in history as the best of all...

2011...all the revisited versions which will be released at the start of the 2010 decade will only experience a very limited level of success...
