Showaddywaddy is an English group formed in Leicester in 1973 from the merger of 2 groups, namely 'Choise' on one side and 'The Golden Hammers' on the other.
It was by appearing in the TV show New Faces that the group began to get noticed from 1973.
But it was above all a year later in 1974 that the career really took off with the release of a first Single “Hey Rock and Roll”, a title which would offer its first major success. Title taken from their first eponymous album which will be released the same year and will also be popular with the public.
Success confirmed and especially amplified the following year in 1975 with the release of the album “Step two”, an album from which the flagship Single “Three steps to heaven” was taken.
Small setback in 1976 with the lackluster release of the album “Trocadero”, an album with less success than its predecessor and which struggled to produce the slightest major Single.
A year 1976 that they managed to end in a masterful way to say the least with the release of the Single “Under the moon of love”, an enormous Single present on the “Greatest hits” compilation. Title which will be a real global hit and literally explode the group's notoriety internationally.
It was the following album “Red Star” which would confirm a year later in 1977 the status of the group as a phenomenon of the moment, notably thanks to a new, very high caliber title called “When”.
Their biggest success on the albums side came the following year with the release of “Crepes & Drapes”, an album which would remain the highest ranked in their entire discography but which, paradoxically, would not produce a world-class Single…
They would have one last notable success in 1980 with the Single “Why do lovers break each other hearts ?” », Single taken from the album “Bright lights” which will also be released the same year.
The adventure will not stop there but everything that comes out afterwards will only experience a relative level of success, to say the least.
