The edge of forever...

The Dream Academy is an English group formed in 1983 and originally composed of Nick Laird-Clowes, Kate St John and Gilbert Gabriel.

This is the signing with the Warner Bros. Records label in 1985 which will allow them to release a first self-titled album. Particularly successful album since it was going to produce the biggest success of all their discography, namely "Life in a northern town". The Single will make a real planetary success and project them on the front of the stage in a shattering way.

Album which will produce other Singles including "The love parade" the following year in 1986, Single which will give the group a new global success. A year 1986 which also sees them be part of the soundtrack of the film 'Ferris Bueller's day off' with the title "Please, please, please let me get what I want", a title which will unfortunately be their last major success.

Because the continuation will prove to be much less favorable and this despite the release of 2 albums which are "Remembrance days" in 1987 and "A different kind of weather" in 1990. Albums which will produce several Singles but none will be able to be classified in the Charts.

Tracks :

1985 ... for a first title, it is a real master stroke since the group obtains here its direct ticket for posterity with this enormous Single. Title which will shatter everything on a planetary level and which will remain as their biggest record success. HU-GE !

1985 ... as paradoxical as it may seem, this title will absolutely not take advantage of the enormous suction effect created by the previous title and will go almost unnoticed. Go figure ...

1985 ... there is really something incomprehensible about them because they will have shattered everything from the first title and will have disappeared from the radar almost in stride. A year 1985 which will have reserved for them the best...as the worst !

1985 ... and yet they are far from demerit. But it is clear that it is time for this year 1985 to end for them because nothing is going well on the Charts side ...

1986 ... business resumes, at last ! We thought they were definitely lost, but here they are, reborn from their ashes in a spectacular fashion. Phew !

1986 ... the improvement will unfortunately be very short. Their revisited version of the Smiths' title dating from 1984 will only experience a limited level of success. Bad pick...

1986 ... the adventure continues for some reason but the group is now doing more some figuration than anything else. And nothing, and no one, will now be able to reverse the trend ...

1987 ... and the change of year will not change the situation. When it don't want it anymore, it doesn't want any more, no need to swim against the current ...

1987 ... a title of more than certain quality but which will also pass under the radar. Nothing helps, neither their talent, nor their good will ...

1987 ... a BIG year 1987 in terms of titles produced. For the rest unfortunately, it does not really get better on the public recognition side ...

1990 ... they will even attempt the transition to the following decade. Suicidal bet and above all lost in advance given the setbacks of the end of the previous decade ...

1990 ... nothing seems to shake them at first glance. In principle, they are right to believe it but the public has already gone to look elsewhere for a long time ...

1991 ... he was sure that at some point they were going to have to throw in the towel. This will be the case on this last title. But they end the adventure with their heads held high and just for that, respect !
