The belly of the beast...

Anthrax is an American group formed in New York in 1981 and originally composed of Scott Ian, Dan Lilker, Joe Gelione and Dave Weiss. Group which can boast of having sold no less than 10 million records around the world to date…

It was by signing with the Megaforce Records label that the group was able to release a first Single “Soldiers of metal” two years later in 1983. Single which unfortunately went somewhat unnoticed just like the album “Fistful of metal” of which it will be extracted and released the following year in 1984.

New album “Spreading the disease” the following year in 1985, an album which was a little better than its predecessor only thanks to the title “Madhouse”.

They will have to wait 2 more years and the year 1987 to finally see their efforts rewarded thanks to the successful release of the album "Among the living", an album with global success but which still struggled to produce the slightest Single of equivalent level.

Success confirmed and especially amplified the following year with the release of the album “State of Euphoria” in 1988, an album which confirmed the status of the group as a phenomenon of the moment. Paradoxically, the group still cannot produce a Single with success equivalent to that of the albums...

The great adventure still continues 2 years later with the release of the album “Persistence of time”, an album which will mainly produce the high-profile Single “Got the time”.

But it is above all the following album “Sound of white noise”, which will be released 3 years later in 1993, which will allow the group to achieve a semblance of consecration. Album which will remain as their highest ranked of all and which will also produce their biggest Single with the title “Only”.

Other albums and other Singles will be released subsequently but none will be able to match the level of success achieved during this famous year 1993.

1983...from the first title we know that this group is not going to do lace but rather regular beating ! Now that we've been warned, everything should be fine...

1985...the first one went unnoticed to say the least, which is not going to be the case with this one. A first success certainly limited to England but that's at least that...

1985...a title which will not be officially released as a Single but which is part of this new opus. A new opus which will only officially produce one title, hence this addition...

1987...the rise in power is linear and allows the group to extend its level of influence to a part of Europe from now on...

1987...well, on the other hand, given the style and sound of the group it is clear that their audience will always be limited to an audience of initiates...

1988...so when we talk about influence we are talking about influence only on a particular audience. Because it is clear that they will not affect everyone, that’s for sure...

1988...they will revisit here the Trust title dating from 1980 and they will achieve the feat of making their revisited version even faster than the original. Yes, they did it...

1990...now success extends to the entire planet. The group is now undoubtedly one of the sure values in its musical field...

1990...it is clear, however, that this is not music reserved for ordinary mortals. Sensitive souls refrain...

1990...after all tastes are in nature as they say. And there is inevitably an audience for this particularly punchy type of music and even then, the word is weak...

1991...an astonishing association to say the least which will only affect audiences affiliated to each group. The others will largely move on...

1991...another title which will not be officially released but which compensates for the absence of official releases for this album in particular...

1993...which will surely remain one of their reference titles. Once again not really aimed at the general public but affordable in any case...

1993...the rest will prove much less affordable, it is clear. We won't remake them as they say, that's for sure...

1993...we really have a hard time realizing that we are dealing with the same group ! An almost normal title both in terms of tempo and sound...

1994...we suspected that it wasn't going to last. Direct return to boosted mode so as not to disappoint the basic fans too much...

1995...as much as the start of the decade was particularly successful for them, the second part was not really going to be as favorable to them...

1996...we will not speak of a free fall but of a sharply declining level of success all the same. It must be said that there is now a lot of competition in their chosen field...

1996...we find them in the soundtrack of 'Tales of the Crypt'. A parenthesis just as punchy as what they can produce for themselves...

1998...they're going to have to seriously think about what's next for the adventure because things aren't really going well on the Charts side...

1998...the end of the 90s which really saw them struggling. Everything that comes out will go almost under the radar...

1998...if there is a transition to the next decade, the group will really have to reinvent himself, otherwise the exit door risks opening faster than expected...

1998...the competition has taken a serious lead over the group and all the lights are turning orange. Attention danger...

1999...they decide to revisit here the Temptations title dating from 1970 and my goodness the result is not that bad...

2003...a transition to the next decade which will not really change the situation. On the contrary, the disconnect with the competition continues to increase...

2004...we could have hoped that the group would finally become aware of the gap that separates him from the others but for the moment the awareness is minimal...

2004...fortunately they still have a significant base of basic fans, otherwise the mass would have been said a long time ago...

2011...we will have to wait the following decade to finally see the group rise to the surface. It took them more than 15 years to do it but it is now an effective thing...

2011...which shows that perseverance always pays off in the end. However, no one believed it anymore, but they at least believed it at first sight...

2011...a return to the forefront which inevitably delights their core fans to the highest degree. Basic fans who always ask for more...

2012...and fortunately the core fans are there in moments of doubt and crossing the desert because otherwise many groups would have disappeared prematurely...

2014...a decade 2010 which saw them finally return to a level worthy of their rank. And the decade is far from over...

2016...because the second part of the decade will clearly confirm this return to grace. It goes to show that things can really turn around very quickly...
