Sykurmolarnir...

The Sugarcubes (Sykurmolarnir in local language) is an Icelandic group formed in 1986 and composed of Björk (Guomundsdottir), ex member of the group 'Tappi Tikarrass', Sidtryggur Baldursson, ex member of the 'Beyr' group, Einar Örn Benediktsson and Bragi Olafsson, both ex members of 'Purrkur Pillnikk' group.

Before the Sugarcubes adventure, Björk, Benediktsson and Baldursson formed the group KUKL in 1984 with which they released 2 albums.

Post-punk inspired, the group’s debut album "Life's Too Good" was released in 1988 and received enthusiastic reviews from critics on both sides of the Atlantic. Album which contains their first big hit namely "Birthday", as well as 2 other minor hits which are "Cold sweat" and "Motorcrash".

A year later in 1989 the album "Here today, tomorrow next week !", an album with less success and from which the singles“ Regina ”and“ Planet ”will be extracted.

It was not until 1991 that the band recorded its biggest success with the single "Hit". Major success, taken from the album "Stick around for joy", and which will unfortunately be the one and only of its kind because the group will eventually split up shortly after.

1989 ... of course, this title will not have the same level of recognition as its predecessor, but whatever. Quality is once again present !

1992 ... after 3 years of wanted or forced break, the group is back in force on this title which will not be the best classified of all. On the other hand, THIS title will be the one that has been classified in the greatest number of countries. A bad for a good !

1992 ... well, wacky side, it does not get better, to say the least. But that's what also makes the charm of this extraordinary group !

1992 ... like a very strong aftertaste of B-52's. And why not. Admittedly, the copy is not worth the original but still ...

1992 ... the end of one adventure and the start of another. The end for the group, the start of the solo career of what will become one of the biggest phenomena of the decade. And of this end of the twentieth century period !
