Sweet forgiveness...

Bonnie Raitt is an American singer who really started her artistic career by signing with the Warner Bros label. in 1971, a label that will allow her to release a first eponymous album. Album which will know a nice success of esteem and which will above all make people talk about her in a particularly positive way to say the least.

New album "Give it up" in 1972, album once again hailed by critics but which, paradoxically, will struggle like its predecessor to produce the slightest major hit. Ditto for "Takin' my time" which was released a year later in 1973.

Not really a runaway either on the following albums namely "Streetlights" in 1974, "Home plate" in 1975, "Sweet forgiveness" in 1977, "The glow" in 1979, "Green light" in 1982 and "Nine lives in 1986. Added to this were alcoholism and drug addiction problems at the start of the 1980s, which did not necessarily help...

End of addictions and change of label at the end of the decade and arrival at Capitol Records, a muscular recovery that will bear fruit beyond all expectations with the success of the album "Nick of time" which was released in 1989. The album offers the singer her first global success and puts her back on the front of the stage in a sensational way thanks to the Single "Have and heart" but also and above all the enormous "Nick of time".

But that's without counting on the huge album "Luck of the draw" which was released two years later in 1991, an album that will sell more than 7 million copies in the United States alone ! Album worn at arm's length by the Singles "Something to talk about" and "I can't make you love me".

New album "Longing in their hearts" in 1994, album with less success but with certain success all the same. Album which will mainly produce the Single "Love sneakin' up on you".

Other albums will be released later but none will be able to bring her back to the same level of success as on the previous albums...

1971...a first title to make people talk about her and start the machine as they say. We will say that on this one the bet is successful !

1971... it is clear that this young singer has everything it takes to do beautiful and great things. The future will confirm it - or not -...

1972... still no Single classified at this stage but the album will be. A slow but sure rise in power...

1972...the only problem that could slow her down is this Folko-Country style that risks marginalizing her in the long term. To be continued...

1973... the albums follow one another but she still does not manage to produce a title that could bring her from shadow to light in a notorious way...

1973... after that we imagine that it's just a matter of time because given its potential we can't imagine for a single second that she remains in the shadows indefinitely...

1974...a year 1974 which sees the release of this new album but without the release of Singles to accompany it. Strange strategy...

1974... that's not why she's far from demerit. As much to highlight the titles of the album which would have deserved to be released in broad daylight...

1975...this title, on the other hand, will officially come out, but that still won't allow the young singer to land her first hit...

1976... ditto for this one. Despite an obvious desire to do well, she still does not manage to impose herself in the big leagues as she should...

1977... it is by covering the title of another that she will finally succeed in passing the level on which she has been stumbling since her beginnings. So thank you to Del Shannon and his title dating from 1961 !

1977...unfortunately the upturn was short-lived. This title will go completely under the radar despite a more than obvious quality of writing...

1977...she really struggles to produce THE title that could finally make all the difference. Yet we feel that she is not very far from it...

1979...accelerating the tempo may allow her to find the solution to her problem. In any case, this will have allowed this title to be classified...

1979...on the other hand as soon as she can she returns to her comfort zone which is the 'emotional' register. It is true that she excels in this area but it does not bring her more than that each time unfortunately...

1980...small incursion on the soundtrack of the film 'Urban cowboy', an incursion which will not bring her more than that. At least she tried...

1982...she finally realized that she must necessarily evolve her style and sound to hope to land a first hit worthy of the name...

1982... it will still not be for this year 1982 but there is still better. We'll just have to be a little bit more patient...

1986...she had to wait until this year 1986 to finally succeed in reaping the fruit of all her efforts. And this is only the beginning of the harvest...

1986...we're not going to get carried away too quickly anyway because this title won't even be released as a Single despite its more than obvious quality. Sometimes you don't have to try to understand...

1987...this title will come out well but will go completely under the radar. We could fear the worst for her, but that won't stop her rise to the top...

1989...her first notorious hit and this time on both sides of the Atlantic. Like what she was absolutely right to believe in her lucky star…

1990...it will have taken nearly 20 years to take off but this time will have been the right one. The icing on the cake, she even manages to land top hits on titles full of finesse and lightness...

1990...a change of decade that really benefited her to the highest degree, it is clear. She will have taken some time to find herself but now that it's done, she is unrolling in an impressive way to say the least...

1990...three titles released during this year 1990 and three top hits, just that. The singer is now on a dynamic of success worthy of the greatest...

1991 ... she will sign here what will undoubtedly remain as the biggest success of all her discography. Moreover in a musical style far, very far, from the musical standards of the moment. Mighty feat as they say !

1991...finally an Intimist title rewarded as it should be. She will have really excelled in this field and it would have been incomprehensible that she did not win the timpani at least once in this very particular register...

1991...small air hole in the Charts concerning this title but nothing to worry about at this stage. She can't get top hits on every title either...

1992...a year 1992 which will be a notch below 1991 but which will still allow her to show that we will still have to count on her in the years to come...

1992...a 'small' year on the Charts side with mixed results for all the titles released that year. But they will be classified anyway, that's already it...

1992...a new title full of finesse and lightness that literally floats in the air. She will have made a bunch of them like that !

1994...nothing in 1993 but it's to better come back in 1994 with this new title, a new title that will allow her to add a new prestigious star to a list that is beginning to contain a certain number...

1994 ... an almost permanent alternation of tempo since its beginnings and which necessarily fills its fans to the highest degree. And us with them necessarily...

1994...a mid-1990s that saw her stay in the race without too much difficulty. It will have taken time to impose herself but now all is well in the best of worlds...

1995...we find her on a new soundtrack and this time it will be for the movie "Boys on the side". All in luxury cover mode on one of Roy Orbison's flagship titles dating from 1989...

1995... pushing the song with a partner such as Bryan Adams is necessarily very pleasant. And the result will satisfy the fans of the 2 artists necessarily...

1996...new soundtrack this time for the film 'Michael'. It's always a real pleasure to find her in her favorite field of Intimist, that's for sure...

1998...a decade of the 90s which is drawing to a close and which will have seen her explode at the highest level. Not sure that the following decade will be as favorable to her, but what is taken is no longer to be taken as they say...

1998...an end of the decade that sees her drop somewhat in the Charts. It remains to be seen whether she will be able to stay afloat in the years to come...

1999...smaller year than this year 1999 with only one title on the clock and success to say the least relative. Afterwards, the quality is always in order which reassures all the same somewhat...

2000...she will have appeared in a package of soundtracks, that's the least we can say. This time it will be for the movie 'Steal this movie!'...

2002...here she is entering her 4th decade with the firm intention of not giving up. As long as she still appears in the Charts, she has every reason to still believe in it...

2002...certainly the level of success has nothing to do with what she knew 10 years before but no matter, nothing to worry about at this stage...

2003...it's obvious that she's been downgraded to the back of the pack, but she's still there anyway. Isn't that the main thing...

2004...she thinks that a small duo could eventually put her back in the saddle but unfortunately this will not be the case. Nice try though...

2004...new soundtrack this time for the movie 'Home of the range'. A title in the pure tradition of titles appearing in films produced by Disney...

2005... the adventure continues even more in the middle of the 2000s with Bonnie still determined to go as far as possible...

2006...as she says herself, nothing should change. As long as it works more or less correctly, why question everything, she says to herself...

2012...and another decade on the clock, one ! You still have to remember that she started her career in 1972, which is not nothing !

2012...an exceptional longevity, but one that is necessarily found only among the most gifted of each generation. Of which she is necessarily a part...

2016... the production of titles will slow down drastically during this decade of 2010, it is clear. But she keeps coming back again and again, which is rather reassuring for the basic fans...

2016... fewer titles but a sufficient level of quality to keep her afloat for a few more years, that's for sure. Who would complain, surely not her in any case...

2022...she's been there for 50 years, who would have thought that possible when she started her career in 1972 ? Not many people that's for sure...
