She thought she was a man...

Divine, whose real name is Harris Milstead, was an American actor and singer, who died in 1988 at the age of only 42 and more particularly known for his outrageous character of Drag Queen.

He will remain mainly in the musical history of the 80s thanks to 2 titles which are "Shoot your shot", released in 1983 and "You think you’re a man" released, it in 1984.

He produced other well-made titles during the 1980s that it would have been a shame to ignore.

To discover or rediscover...

Tracks :

1982 ... the musical debut of one of the biggest transvestites, literally as well as figuratively, of the 80s. An excess as only Americans can do ...

1983 ... a title and especially THIS title was enough to make him/her enter the musical legend of the 80s. A title that will literally set fire to all the Dancefloor on the planet and consecrate the artist as one of the - biggest - phenomena of the moment. MAS-TER-FUL !

1983 ... what is certain is that with him, it's Dance, Dance, Dance. Impossible to imagine him in another domain and even less in the Intimist ...

1983 ... a unique phenomenon of its kind, without complexes or fear of ridicule. An extravagance taken to the extreme and very revealing of what it was possible, and above all tolerated, to do in the 80s. Which would be much less nowadays unfortunately ...

1984 ... he will have mainly worked in the Hi-NRG niche and my faith, if we remove the excess related to his character, it is clear that he will not have been that ridiculous. At least in the musical field ...

1984 ... well, it is true that at one point, everything that he releases over the years ends up being alike. It is true that in terms of musical diversity, he will not remain in the musical history of the 80s as the most creative artist of his generation. But overall, it all works pretty well !

1985 ... how to modernize a Four Seasons title from 1963 ? Well, quite simply by doing that. An 80s version that pulsates, to say the least !

1985 ... this time, it's a song by Sam Cooke dating from 1962 that he brings up to date. Well, doing luxury cover is good and above all easy. But the copy is not always up to the original unfortunately ...

1985 ... we go back to pure creation but the result is not the most convincing. We feel that the artist has reached his limits and that it is difficult for him to recreate the event as he was able to do in 1983. The competition is already light years ahead ...

1987 ... an extraordinary career which corresponds perfectly to his character, that is to say disproportionate and which does not resemble any other. Unique model !
