Record holder of the genre...

Johnny Logan, real name Sean Sherrard, is a singer-songwriter who was born in Australia but returned to Ireland at the age of 3, his father's home country. Father who had temporarily emigrated to Australia as a singer of Irish and Celtic music. An early artist, to say the least, who began his artistic career by writing his first compositions at the age of 13.

But his real career start came in 1977, at the age of 23, when he played the role of Adam in the Irish musical 'Adam and Eve' and then Joseph in 'Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat'.

A year later in 1978, he released a first Single called "No, I don’t want to fall in love", a Single that went completely under the radar.

It is through the Eurovision Song Contest that his fate will be radically changed. First in 1979 when he finished 3rd in the Irish caps. And especially in 1980 when this time he finished at the top of the selection. A first place that will allow him to win another and not the least since he will outright win that year the great Eurovision Song Contest with the song "What’s another year".

The track became a real global hit and literally exploded the singer's reputation internationally.

Unfortunately, this success was short-lived because all the titles that were to be released in the years to follow were to experience only a modest level of success.

Except in 1987, when he made a strong comeback with the album “Hold me now”, an album that was going to be a hit this year, notably thanks to two flagship Singles that are “I'm not in love” but also, and above all “Hold me now”.

The same song that will allow him to win the great Eurovision Song Contest for the second time in the same year, an extremely rare fact that will make him the only person to have achieved this feat.

Huge success once again short-lived because the end of the 1980s saw him plunge back into the depths of the Charts.

But the adventure concerning Eurovision did not end there because in 1984 he had already composed the track "Terminal 3" for singer Linda Martin, a track which had finished 2nd in the great Competition. Collaboration he renewed in 1992 with a new title called "Why me", title which won the great Competition, making Logan the most successful artist in the history of this competition.

New triumph which will indeed be the last because he will never be able to repeat this incredible feat afterwards.

Tracks :

1978 ... trendy beginnings but which did not allow the singer to stand out more than that. He will still have to work, that's clear ...

1978 ... a nice title full of finesse that will not change the situation. We will therefore have to be a little more patient to see him land his first major success ...

1980 ... THE title that will change everything ! It is by winning the Eurovision Song Contest with this title that the singer's fate literally changes overnight. With an explosion of its notoriety. HU-GE !

1980 ... a sequel that will not really have the same level of success but whatever, the singer is now on the front of the stage and that's the main thing !

1980 ... a BIG year 1980 with a plethora of titles and quality across the board. The singer becomes de facto one of the biggest phenomena of the moment across the Channel ...

1982 ... after a year 1981 when not much will happen, the singer returns in this year 1982 in a form that we will qualify as average. Can and must do better !

1984 ... when he's not writing for himself, he writes for others. A quality of writing more than certain which will allow Linda Martin to shine particularly in turn during the Eurovision Song Contest in 1984

1985 ... another single-title year. After a shocking start to the 1980s, it is clear that the mid-decade is much more complicated to manage than expected. Despite a title quality that does not weaken yet ...

1986 ... the year 1986 will not be more productive than the previous years. A single title once again on the clock and which will go completely unnoticed despite a significant quality. When it doesn't want, it doesn't ...

1987 ... as the previous title went completely under the radar, this one will make talk about it. So much so that it will allow the singer to win his 2nd Eurovision Song Contest, unique in its kind. MAS-TER-FUL !

1987 ... surprisingly, he plays it luxury cover on this title there with a revisited version of the mythical title of 10CC dating from 1975. Of course, the copy will not be worth the original but will come close to it and it's already a pretty feat in itself as they say ...

1988 ... after an exceptional year in all respects, 1988 will look very pale with a level of success in free fall. This title is nice, certainly, but it will not remain as the best of the artist ...

1988 ... this one will not do better despite a much higher level of inspiration. The singer constantly goes through ups and downs that become difficult to manage with force ...

1989 ... here he is in pure and hard Dance mode, an area he has hardly practiced so far. Might as well try everything for everything as they say. But goodwill will not be enough on this one either ...

1989 ... hunt the natural, it comes back at a gallop. Direct return to Intimist mode, an area in which he takes refuge whenever he has the chance. And it works again. But the public sees things differently. Go figure ...

1989 ... his only title classified in ages. And again, of low amplitude. A chronic and above all incomprehensible lack of success for one of the most gifted artists of his generation ...

1991 ... when nothing is going well, we always try the impossible return with a nice luxury cover. This time, he is attacking the flagship title of Champaign dating from 1981. A version very close to the original and which will allow him to still exist a little at the beginning of the 1990s ...

1992 ... his last ranked title, once again in Intimist mode. He will never be unworthy, far from it but it is clear that the public will not necessarily have been very tender with him ...

1992 ... and the miracle happens ! Certainly, not for him, but he achieved the feat of winning Linda Martin in the Eurovision 92 competition with this title, HIS title. Thus becoming unquestionably and undisputed the most successful artist of all time in this competition !

1994 ... admittedly he will only do some figuration from now on but what he continues to offer largely holds up. We will therefore be largely satisfied with it !

1995 ... he tries to adapt to the latest trends of the moment but unfortunately that will not change the situation. His good will is still a pleasure to see ...

1999 ... a decade of the 90s which saw him slowly but surely disappear from radar. After a decade of 80 which will have made him return to the legend, the following decade will unfortunately not have been so favorable ...

2006 ... a totally improbable return. When 2 generations that have nothing to do with singing, sometimes the result is surprising to say the least. And on this one, it is !

2013 ... and here he is again. Not only does he hang on but also delivers one of his best titles here. Like what, nothing is ever finished. Especially with him !
