One thing leads to another...

The Fixx is an English group formed in London in 1979 and originally composed of Cy Curnin and Adam Woods, who were quickly joined by Rupert Greenall, Tony McGrail and Russell McKenzie.

Group which was initially called 'Portraits' and produced two first Singles under this name, namely “Little women” in 1979 and “Hazards in the home” a year later in 1980. Two Singles which went somewhat unnoticed…

The group changed its name for the first time in 1981 to be called 'The Fix', a name under which they produced a new Single called “Lost Planes”. Single which will not do better than its predecessors unfortunately…

It was the signing with the MCA Records label that forced them to change their name to 'The Fixx', so as to avoid any ambiguity concerning a possible drug-related connotation.

Label which allowed them to release a first album “Shuttered room” a year later in 1982, an album which would really reveal them to the eyes of the whole world, notably thanks to the enormous Single “Stand or fall”.

But it was above all the following album "Reach the beach" which would establish them the following year in 1983, an album carried at arm's length by the flagship Single "One thing leads to another".

Success confirmed but not amplified the following year in 1984 when the album “Phantoms” was released, an album which was only achieved thanks to the Single “Are we ourselves ?”. A Single whose clip is considered one of the very first to have featured a mobile phone in a video clip, in this case the KR999 from Motorola.

New album “Walkabout” two years later in 1986, an album which confirms the group's obvious decline. Album which will still produce the high caliber Single “Secret sepration”.

The album “Calm Animals” which was released two years later in 1989 did little better than its predecessor but was also saved at the last minute by a major title called “Driven Out”. Ditto for the album “Ink” which was released in 1991 and carried at arm’s length by the Single “How much is enough”.

Major Single which will be the last because everything that will be released subsequently, whether on the album side or on the Singles side, will only experience a very limited level of success.

To discover or rediscover...

Tracks :

1979...the group is not yet called The Fixx but he is already releasing its first titles at the very end of the 70s...

1980...two titles which will go somewhat unnoticed as is very often the case when a group takes its first steps...

1981...no major improvement with this new title. The group will therefore have to ask himself the right questions quickly, otherwise the adventure could be cut short...

1982...they still cannot find the solution despite a desire to do well. They will have to work a little more...

1982...a job that will finally pay off from this title and in what way ! The group will move from the shadows to the light in a resounding way to say the least and land their first global top hit, just that...

1982...a sequel which will not be able to compete with the title which preceded it but which will still come out on top...

1983...the year 1983 started off on almost the same basis as the year 1982 with a level of success that was flattering to say the least...

1983...which will surely remain as their most emblematic title. The group will obtain here the semblance of consecration after which he has been chasing since its beginnings and at the same time obtain its direct ticket for posterity. HU-GE !

1983...after reaching the top of the mountain you have to come down as they say. Except that here the descent will be brutal to say the least...

1984...we find them in soundtrack mode on this new title but that won't allow them to stop the decline any more...

1984...success has reduced considerably on the Singles side and only albums are still barely able to get by. Hard law of the trade...

1984...fortunately the United States is still there to support the group otherwise the situation would be very worrying to say the least at this stage...

1984...how the situation could turn around to this point is really a question. It's mostly up to them to ask themselves in any case...

1985...a middle of the decade which sees them really struggling with this year 1985 not only single title but with almost non-existent success on top of that...

1986...the beginning of 1986 will hardly see things improve on the Singles side, to which is added the beginning of a decline on the albums side...

1986...while we thought things were really off to a bad start, they managed to get back into the race in an unexpected way, to say the least, with this new title. It goes to show that nothing is ever finished in music, the proof !

1986...a very short-lived return given the low level of success achieved by this title. Clearly, nothing is going well on planet Fixx...

1987...once again it is the United States which will save this title from complete anonymity. We're starting to get used to it now...

1989...new spectacular rebound at the very end of the 80s. Spectacular rebounds of which they are becoming particularly accustomed...

1989...it's certainly not the basic fans who will complain about these totally unexpected returns to grace...

1991...on the other hand we know that with them returns to the forefront are often ephemeral. For now it lasts...

1991...and here is the relapse that we expected to see happen shortly. With them it's always one shot up, one shot down...

1991...afterwards as long as the adventure continues and it is not devoid of interest, we inevitably ask for more. Which is still the case at this stage...

1998...there on the other hand we are going to lose sight of them for almost 7 years which is no small thing. An absence that will not necessarily help...

1998...because this return will go almost unnoticed. Now there are only the fans from the first hour to continue to follow them...

1998...the end of the 90s which saw them struggling somewhat and even then the word is weak. Afterwards in music everything remains possible...
