Tavares is an American group formed in 1959 under the name 'Chubby And The Turnpikes', a group originally composed of 5 brothers of Cape Verdean origin.
A group that signed with the Capitol Records label in 1967, a label with which they would achieve two major hits with the titles "I know the inside story" in 1967 and "Nothing but promises" in 1968.
It was in 1973 that the group officially took the name 'Tavares', a group name under which they would achieve their first hit with the title "Check it out". Title taken from their first album which bears the same name as the Single and which would be released a year later in 1974.
Success confirmed and amplified still in 1974 with the release of a second album called "Hard core poetry". Album that will mainly produce the flagship Single "Remember what I told you to forget", Single that will be released the following year in 1975.
Year 1975 which sees the release of the album "In the city", album that sees the fame of the group extend to the entire North American continent notably thanks to the huge Single "It only takes a minute".
But the consecration, the real one, arrives a year later in 1976 with the release of the album "Sky high!", album that will remain as the best ranked of all their discography. Album carried by the Single "Heaven must be missing an angel", Single that will also be the best ranked of all.
New album "Love storm" in 1977, album with less success but which will still produce the very big single "Whodunit".
Other albums and Singles will be released later, especially during the 80s, but none will match the level of success achieved by the group in the mid-70s.

Tracks :
1973...first title and already first success, a start that was at least ideal as they say. Now it remains to be proven that it was not just a stroke of luck...
1974...even if this title will experience a lesser level of success, the group proves here that the previous success was anything but due to chance...
1974...the group's level of influence is spreading throughout the North American sphere, which can only be reassuring for the rest of the events...
1974...they will revisit here the title of Hall & Oates dating from the previous year and their version will almost succeed in equaling the original, which is not nothing...
1975...the group has become in a few years one of the big revelations of the moment, it is clear. Now it remains to produce THE title of recognition, the real one...
1975...a title that will go unnoticed to say the least, but it must be said that being a 'B-Side' doesn't help to shine more than that, that's for sure...
1975...the level of success is slowly but surely increasing and suggests a sequel that is bound to be very interesting...
1975...they like to cover other people's songs and here they are revisiting the Edgar Winter Group's song from 1973. And this time the copy will surpass the original in terms of success in the Charts, quite a feat...
1976...a year 1976 that starts calmly with a fairly minimalist level of success for this title. But given what's on the horizon, there's no need to worry about them...
1976... here finally comes the time for recognition, the real one. The group will simply achieve the biggest success of its entire discography and enter One Shot into the musical pantheon of this end of the 20th century. HU-GE !
1976...an exceptional year for the group with this new top hit. Certainly the level of success will be a notch below its predecessor but significant regardless...
1977... as a general rule, their first title of the year is not the one that will be remembered the most. The proof once again with this new title...
1977...but this one we will remember well ! A title that will remain as their second biggest success and confirm at the same time their status as the leading group of the moment...
1977...serious unscrewing on this title but which does not call into question the excellent course of the group until then. To be continued as they say...
1977...a title full of finesse and lightness which is in truth a cover of the title by Jesse Belvin dating from 1956. This time the copy will not surpass the original, far from it...
1977...it's the Bee Gees' turn to have their favors through this revisited version of their title dating from 1977. A luxury cover which will do much better in the Charts than their previous one...
1978...the adventure continues but the level of success in the Charts is weakening more and more, it is clear. Beware of danger...
1978...the titles continue to be classified but the level of success achieved is very minimalist. The group will therefore have to ask himself the right questions and quickly...
1978...without a rapid reaction the exit door risks opening more quickly than expected, especially since the competition is no longer giving any gifts...
1978...the delay with the competition elsewhere increases title after title which is not reassuring. The group is no longer a shadow of himself...
1979...yet they are hanging on but goodwill is no longer enough at this stage. The level of inspiration will really have to return to its former level...
1979...the end of the 70s really sees them lagging behind. Now it remains to be seen how they intend to approach the next decade...
1980...will they know how to reinvent themselves or on the contrary will they be content to stay in their comfort zone ? Good question...
1980...for now it would rather be the 2nd option which would prevail over the 1st. Too bad because they nevertheless have the potential to change things...
1980...they are not demeriting, far from it, but they are no longer incapable of competing with the best. After all, everything is still possible in music...
1981...a return to the surface is still possible. They just need to find that little something extra that they are missing today...
1981...a title that will not be released as a Single but that would have been a shame to overlook. So here it is, brought back into the spotlight as it should be...
1981...whatever, they still manage to rank their titles in the R&B Charts which allows them to continue to exist a little...
1981...a year 1981 that will not remain as their best Vintage but which will have at least had the merit of producing 3 classified titles. That's at least that...
1982...it's this revisited version of Marion Jarvis' title dating from 1975 which will bring them a real breath of fresh air with the key to a success finally worthy of the name...
1982...a success that they will not succeed in confirming later but they will at least have added a prestigious star to their prize list...
1983...the fall in the Charts will start again with renewed vigor and this time the group will unfortunately never manage to stop it...
1983...they would have liked to continue the adventure as far as possible but it is clear that they no longer have the means. This time they will have no other alternative than to throw in the towel for good...
