Hope stifled...

Skinny Puppy is a Canadian band formed in Vancouver in 1982 by Kevin Crompton and Kevin Graham Ogilvie.

Group which released their first EP in 1984 called "Back & Forth", an EP which unfortunately went somewhat unnoticed. Just like the following "Remission". All the same, that was enough to make them notice the Nettwerk label, which signed them the same year.

A first album called "Bites" was released a year later in 1985, an album which also went under the radar but which nevertheless produced the mini hit "Assimilate". Mini hit which will only be audible in underground circles ...

It was the arrival of the Capital Records label in 1986 that would be a game-changer. Label which allows them to release the album "Mind : the perpetual intercourse", album from which their first Single worthy of the name, "Dig it", will be extracted. Single which will be a great success.

New album "Cleanse fold and manipulate" a year later in 1987, album which sees the group engage politically through their songs. A bias that will unfortunately not pay more than that ...

They will have to wait for the release in 1988 of the album "VIVIsectVI" to finally reap their first notorious success thanks to the Single "Testure". First and last notorious success because the group will never manage to repeat the feat despite the significant success of the albums "Last rights" and "The process" which will be released in 1992 and 1996 respectively.

An adventure that will not stop there in any case because the group will subsequently produce other albums, some of which will have significant success.

1984 ... and yet we feel that there is a significant underlying potential in this group. But there is still a lot of work before they can hope to join the big leagues ...

1985 ... a little respite doesn't hurt, on the contrary. A very gentle start to 1985, which allowed the ears to rest a little ...

1986 ... evolution is slow but certain. It is clear that it will take them a few years before arriving at a sound, and especially a style, compatible with the general public ...

1987 ... the groundwork begins to bear fruit. The group finally manages to produce structured titles, as much at the melodic level as at the style level. There remains the problem of the voice ...

1987 ... Canada was one of the biggest producers of 'aware' groups during the 80s. Why him in particular, good question doctor ...

1988 ... a title bordering on inaudible on certain passages. A truly surprising bias on the part of this group which knowingly refuses to evolve with the times ...

1988 ... then comes THIS title. The one and only title that will bring them some semblance of success and recognition. We stopped believing it would happen...

1989 ... short-lived improvement because the group leaves directly in its bad ways. One would have thought that the group would really make an effort to evolve. It is clear that we hardly take the path ...

1989...the 80s saw them blossom, of course. But we really have to hope that the 90s will allow them to finally pass the level on which they have stumbled since their beginnings...

1990 ... well, well it will not be for this blow there. The transition to the 1990s will not have changed the situation unfortunately ...

1991 ... a group which never knew, or wanted, to evolve and this in spite of a level of success of the weakest. Sometimes you don't have to try to understand ...

1992 ... still this dark and frightening universe from which they have not been able to escape since the start of their career. But there is something for everyone and that's also the 80s ...

1992 ... no noticeable improvements in sight. So we can imagine that it will be like that until the end. An amazing career strategy. Even suicidal ...

1996 ... an unclassifiable group, out of the ordinary and above all out of time. It's good to stand out from the crowd, but there are limits all the same. Limits that the group will never have found ...

1996...but it doesn't matter to him, it absolutely won't stop him from continuing to do what he wants and only what he wants...

1996...especially since the albums will continue to sell well, which can only reassure them in the idea of pushing the adventure as far as possible...

2004...of course we will lose sight of them for almost 8 years but here they are again regardless. A return that can only delight core fans once again...

2004...as always their music is aimed more at a circle of initiates but what they continue to offer is not without interest, far from it...

2004...you have to remember that they started almost 20 years ago, which is no small thing. An exceptional longevity for this type of group with such a marked sound...

2007...they won't give up until the end, it's clear. As long as they enjoy doing what they do there is no reason for them to throw in the towel prematurely...

2007...rather rare to see them in a musical mode that is much more peaceful than usual. So, they can also do this kind of thing...

2007...a parenthesis quickly closed to find their basic fundamentals. We won't remake them again as they say, that's for sure...

2011...and one more decade on the clock, one ! Who could have imagined when they started in 1985 that they would still be here at the start of the 2010s ? Not many people, that's for sure...

2011...and yet they are indeed here and above all still as motivated at first glance. An adventure far from over...

2011...with each title we say to ourselves that it may be the last but each time they come back again and again. To be continued...

2013...as expected, here they are again, faithful to the post ! They really impress with their ability to last in such a particular musical style...

2013...where most of the groups which operated in the same musical register have disappeared for a long time, they are still there in any case...
