Head gone astray...

The Soup Dragons is a Scottish band formed in Bellshill in 1985 and originally composed of Sean Dickson, Jim McCulloch, Sushil K. Dade and Ross A. Sinclair. A band whose name would actually be a reference to the children's series 'Clangers', particularly popular in the 70s.

A band that released a first demo called "You have some too" followed by a Single in flexi-disc mode called "If you were the only girl in the world". Two first productions that would allow them to sign with the label The Subway Organization a year later in 1986.

A label with which they released a mini-album "The sun in the sky" also in 1986, a mini-album that would go somewhat unnoticed unfortunately...

A year 1986 that would not be so negative in the end since the Single "Whole wild world" that came out in the wake would allow them to finally achieve their first success.

Success confirmed and especially amplified with the successful release a year later in 1987 of the Singles "Can't take no more" and "Soft as your face", two Singles that we will find on their first album "This is our art", first album that will see the light of day a year later in 1988.

But the consecration, the real one, arrives at the very beginning of the following decade with the release of the enormous album "Lovegod", album that finally gives them the global recognition that they have been running after since their beginnings and this thanks to the flagship Single "I'm free".

Huge success that they will not succeed in reproducing with their new album "Hotwired", album that comes out two years later in 1992 and with less success than its predecessor. Album that will still allow them to get their biggest success in the United States with the title "Divine thing".

A final album "Hydroponic" will be released in 1994, an album that will go unnoticed to say the least and that will seal the fate of the group, which will end up breaking up shortly after.

To discover or rediscover...

Tracks :

1986...a rather confidential start to a career with titles that went somewhat unnoticed. You have to start somewhere, as they say...

1986...titles that will go unnoticed but which still show that there is potential in this group and the future will prove it in a brilliant way...

1986...certainly they still have work to do before they can compete with the best but they are working on it anyway...

1986...you have to let time take its course as they say and a career is not built in a day. So let's be patient a little longer...

1987...it's with this title that the group will finally succeed in making people talk about them as they should. As if everything happens at one time or another...

1987...the ascent to the top is happening quietly but surely. Every title that comes out from now on is ranked which is necessarily a good omen for the rest of the events...

1987...title after title the group proves that he has everything it takes to do great things and that it will end up producing THE title that will make him one of the reference groups of its generation...

1988...it's just a matter of time, that's for sure. It won't necessarily be for this 80s decade but it will inevitably end up happening...

1988...in any case they do everything they can to make it happen. They just need to find that little something that will make all the difference...

1989...a lackluster end to the 80s with a drop in the Charts that was surprising to say the least. But nothing to worry about at this stage in any case...

1989...it's just the level of inspiration that has weakened somewhat at the end of the decade but that will in no way affect their desire to believe in it whatever happens...

1990...and this beginning of the 90s will prove masterfully that they were absolutely right to believe in it. Not necessarily on this title but on the next one...

1990...it is with THIS title that the group will finally reach the consecration after which he has been running for years and in what a way ! They simply sign here one of the most emblematic titles of this decade and at the same time offer themselves a beautiful place in the musical Pantheon of this end of the 20th century. MAS-TER-FUL !

1991...as much as the previous title made people talk about it, this title will go unnoticed to say the least. Sometimes you shouldn't try to understand...

1992...while we thought that this decade of the 90s was going to be a succession of very large-scale successes, the complete opposite was going to happen in the end...

1992...not only will the group go downhill in the Charts but the end of the adventure is already looming on the horizon...

1994...a turnaround that is incomprehensible to say the least, but it is indeed the case. As if nothing is ever a given...

1994...a final opus that will go under the radar and seal the fate of the group. How did we get to this point, good question...

1994...but yet it is indeed the reality. As much as the 80s were exceptional for the group, the 90s were one of free and irreversible fall...

2023...we thought we would never see them again and yet here they are again in a totally unexpected way at the start of the 2020s. Who would have believed it...?
