Thomas Anders, whose real name is Bernd Weidung, is a German singer best known for having been the very recognizable singer of the extremely famous duo 'Modern Talking', a duo which would have its hour of glory in the mid-80s.
A precocious singer since he really began his artistic career by winning a singing competition when he was only 10 years old, a singing competition that he won against a hundred other children, no less. A prestigious victory which will allow him to perform more than 300 times in a music hall in Koblenz !
It was in 1979, then aged 16, that his career really began to take off when he entered a new competition organized by Radio Luxembourg. A competition that he did not win this time but which still allowed him to be noticed by the CBS label.
Label with which he will begin to produce mainly Schlager-type titles. Unfortunately, due to lack of success, the adventure was cut short and the young singer was dismissed by his record company two years later.
He moved to Hansa Records the following year and continued in the same musical register with the same result as before, namely very little success.
It was the meeting with Dieter Bohlen in 1983 that changed everything with the production of titles in German which were in truth covers of English titles including “Pick up the phone” by F.R. David and “Send me an angel” by Real Life . But once again, success is not there...
It was the move to BMG that allowed them to radically change their musical domain to move to Eurodisco, a domain that allowed them to be projected onto the front of the stage in a resounding way, notably with their enormous title "You' re my heart, you're my soul” in 1985, a Single that went on to sell 8 million copies worldwide !
Flagship title which will be followed by many others and which will see the group sell no less than 60 million records around the world during its most prosperous period.
A grandiose adventure which ended in 1987 with the breakup of the duo at the initiative of Bohlen, Bohlen reproaching Anders for the too assertive and too intrusive presence of his wife in the conduct of his career.
Anders released his first solo album “Different” two years later in 1989, an album which went somewhat unnoticed. Just like “Whispers” which was released in 1991, “Down on sunset” in 1992, “When will I see you again” in 1993, “Barcos de cristal” in 1994 and “Souled in 1995”.
The two friends from Modern Talking who had seriously fallen out in 1987 will decide to do it again in 1998 just to see if the tensions have eased between them. Well, it's up to them since the re-release of 'You're my heart, you're my soul' and 'Brother Louie' in the 98 version will be a real global hit and instantly relaunch the duo. Duo which will function more or less for 5 more years, at which point it will separate again.
Forced solo return from the year 2004, a solo return which, this time, will benefit him much more with the production of a successful first album "This time", album which will bring him no less than 3 big hits with the titles “Independent girl”, “King of love” and “Tonight is the night”.
A winning return which will make him one of the most renowned artists in Eastern countries in particular and which will see him produce 2 years later in 2006 another successful album called “Songs forever”.
The 2010s will see him consolidate his position with albums like “History” in 2016, “Pures leben” in 2017 and “Ewig mit dir” in 2018.
A success story that we imagine is far from over.
