Harmony in my head...

Pete Shelley, whose real name is Peter McNeish, was an English singer-songwriter who started his artistic career within the Buzzcocks in 1976. A group with which he produced several albums with more than certain success and which above all allowed him to make his mark known at the highest level.

As for his solo career, it really started in 1980 with the release of his first album “Sky yen”, an album actually recorded 6 years earlier in 1974 but which would not be released until the very beginning of the decade. 80. Album with limited success to say the least…

But it was especially a year later in 1981 that everything accelerated when the Single “Homosapien” was released, a Single which was popular with the public, particularly in North America. Title which paradoxically will be blacklisted by the BBC because it deals openly and freely with the practice of homosexual sex…

Title which will be taken from the album of the same name which will also be released in 1981 and which will produce 2 other successful Singles : “I don’t know what it is” and “Witness the change”.

New album “XL1” two years later in 1983, an album which finally allowed him to achieve his first solo successes in England with “Telephone operator” and “Millions of people (No one like you)”.

We will have to wait until 1986 to see the release of his new album “Heaven and the Sea”, an album with less success and which narrowly escaped thanks to the Single “On your own”.

A solo career which ended there and which saw him return to Buzzcoks at the end of the 80s.

Artist who left us permanently on December 6, 2018 at the age of 63 following a cardiac arrest.

Tracks :

1977...a first title which will allow young Peter and his group of friends to achieve their first success in an unexpected way to say the least...

1978...the group immediately proves that the success encountered on the previous title was anything but the result of chance...

1978...the hits follow one another at an impressive speed to say the least and make the group one of the phenomena of the moment, in an indisputable way...

1978...a year 1978 plethoric in terms of titles and which will undoubtedly remain as the best vintage of the group...

1978...it is with THIS title that the group will win the prize and write its name once and for all in the musical history of the end of the 20th century. HU-GE !

1978...they will have scored no less than 5 hits during this year 1978 which constitutes a real feat. Not sure if they will be able to repeat the feat later...

1979...no sudden deceleration at the very end of the 70s, at least for the moment. The level of success remains stable which is rather reassuring...

1979...certainly the level of productivity has slowed down significantly but the group is still in the race as they say. Let's hope it lasts...

1979...a level of productivity that slows down and titles that begin to fly under the radar. They will therefore have to carefully monitor the transition to the next decade...

1980...a new decade which begins in the same way as the previous decade ended with this title which will also go under the radar...

1980...they will succeed in saving the furniture with this title but it is clear that the group is struggling more and more. Attention danger...

1980...things are not getting any better and it is obvious that the group is getting closer and closer to the exit door. It's just a matter of time...

1980...the group will not have been able to reinvent himself at the start of the 80s and he will pay a high price with a more or less planned disappearance...

1981...the Buzzcocks adventure ends and the artist begins his solo career. A reconversion which begins in pain with a first opus 100 % instrumental music which borders on the almost inaudible...

1981...we could have feared the worst but the artist will bounce back in a spectacular way to say the least and prove with THIS title that he has all the qualities of a Great. HU-GE !

1981...this title will not be able to match its predecessor in terms of success achieved but it will do more than well. It's already that...

1981...another story without words but which will enjoy significantly greater success than its 1980 counterpart. It must be said that the Dance rhythm necessarily contributes to this...

1982...slight deceleration during this year 1982 but which does not call into question the spectacular progress of the singer at the start of the decade...

1983...business picks up the following year and reassures about the artist's ability to bounce back. Obviously reassuring for the future...

1983...a beautiful and BIG year 1983 with this second hit straight away. An adventure that is unrolling in an ideal way for the moment...

1984...we had perhaps become too accustomed to him landing hit after hit and this mid-decade will remind us in a violent way, to say the least, that nothing is ever definitively acquired...

1986...a mid-decade which saw him really struggling despite an obvious desire to do well. A recovery is becoming more and more necessary and quickly...

1986...he will succeed in saving the furniture with this new title but it will indeed be the last time that he will appear in a good position in the Charts...

1986...the rest will be much more complicated to manage than expected. Everything that comes out from now on will go more or less under the radar...

1986...after considering the work already accomplished, the results are not that bad in the end, it is clear. Sometimes you have to know how to be satisfied with what you have already obtained...

1993...after 7 years of reflection, he said to himself that going back in grouped mode might be the best solution. So back to the Buzzcocks...

1993...it starts with a good feeling but it won't change much in the end. The group also dropped out and will never return to the race unfortunately...

1996...afterwards he said to himself that as long as he enjoys doing what he does, why stop there. So the adventure continues slowly but surely, to the delight of core fans...

1996...especially since they are far from ridiculous. The only problem with them is this permanent overspeed which is no longer really relevant in this 90s decade, at least on the rock side...

1996...it is their inability to reinvent themselves that penalizes them the most in the end. It would just have been necessary to evolve their sound and their style and everything would have been possible...

1999...but the lack of success doesn't seem to bother them that much. It remains to be seen what they are really run after now...

1999...as long as they get what they want, why would they throw in the towel in the end. A reflection that no one can dispute with them at this stage...

2003...a new opus that will delight core fans once again. But there will only be them because nothing changes on the planet Buzzcocks...

2003...still no changes in sight, neither in terms of style nor in terms of sound. The group still hasn't understood that the era has changed and that the 80s are far, far behind...

2006...they will succeed in classifying this title in a miraculous way to say the least, which proves them completely right about the fact that in music you should never give up...

2006...they will not be able to reproduce the feat on this title but what is taken is no longer to be taken as they say. Especially in these times of scarcity for the group...

2006...a new opus with higher quality than those which preceded it recently, it is clear. So they really have to take advantage of it...

2014...we will lose sight of them for almost 8 years but here they are again. A desire to believe in it until the end which undoubtedly commands respect...

2014...we still have to remember that they started their career in 1978 which is starting to add up to quite a lot of years on the clock career-wise...

2014...and still the same sound and the same style. We won't remake them again as they say, but this extremism necessarily has a price...

2020...each time we tell ourselves that this title will be the last and each time they come back inexorably. Until when, good question...

2022...it's been 44 years since the group began its adventure and it's still not over. As long as they have things to offer they will come back again and again...

2022...especially as more and more colleagues who started at the same time as them also decide to come back which can only encourage them to continue as far as possible...

2022...it now remains to be seen whether they will have the strength to come back again. Only them can answer the question...
