Fallen angels...

Blue Öyster Cult is an American group formed in New York in 1971 and originally composed of Buck Dharma (real name Donal Roeser), Albert Bouchard, Allen Lanier, Andrew Winters and John Wiesenthal. Group that can boast of having sold no less than 25 million records to date, just that...

A first eponymous album was released a year later in 1972, an album which did not go unnoticed far from it thanks to the title "Cities on flame with Rock & Roll". Single not classified but which remains to this day one of their reference titles…

Success confirmed and amplified the following year with the release in 1973 of the album "Tyranny and mutation", an album which will mainly produce the title "Hot rails to hell".

New album "Secret Treaties" in 1974, an album which once again confirms that the group is on a dynamic of success which only increases year after year. Especially thanks to the title "Career of evil".

Three albums whose covers are all black and white and which will characterize this period of the group as 'the black and white years'...

The new album "Agents of Fortune" which was released two years later in 1976 saw the group's fame expand considerably, particularly on both sides of the Atlantic. A huge album that will especially produce what will remain as the biggest title of their entire discography on the Singles side with "(Don't fear) The reaper".

The album "Spectres" which was released the following year in 1977 was not unworthy, far from it, but was unable to match the enormous success met by its predecessor. An album carried at arm's length by the Single "Godzilla".

New albums 'Mirrors' in 1979 and 'Cultösaurus Erectus' in 1980, two somewhat disappointing albums which failed to produce any major hits.

Back in force in 1981 thanks to a reorientation of the sound of the group to stick to the latest musical trends of the moment. A successful reorientation that will allow their new album "Fire of unknown origin" to stay in history as their best-selling studio album, thanks in particular to the enormous Single "Burnin' for you".

Other albums will come out later but none will allow the group to find the level of success reached previously unfortunately...

1972...a first title which will not be classified but which remains to this day one of their most emblematic titles. Like what...

1973...after a remarkable beginning, it now remains to be confirmed that this excellent start was not the result of chance...

1974... the rise in power is evident year after year on the albums side and clearly proves that the group has everything he takes to do great things...

1974...and he's going to do great things with it, that's for sure. Let's give him a little more time but it is certain that it will necessarily happen at one time or another...

1975...they revisit here the flagship title of the Steppenwolf dating from 1968, a quality cover but which will not bring much more than the original...

1975...still no big take-off in sight, but it won't be long. It could be that the coming year will be the right one this time...

1976... the title of the great take-off and which will also offer them their direct ticket to posterity. A title that deals with eternal love and the inevitability of death, quite a program !

1976...difficult for this title to exist behind the enormous previous title. He will therefore have to be satisfied with the crumbs left by his predecessor on the success side...

1977 ... the group has nevertheless become one of the phenomena of the moment and unrolls quietly taking advantage of this major success that he had been waiting for since its beginnings ...

1977...new opus and quality once again at the rendezvous. The group proves once again that he surely did not arrive so high by chance...

1978...another title which will pass somewhat 'through' at the Charts level but which nevertheless remains one of the reference titles of the group...

1978...their fundamentals are undeniably rock but they still happen to be finesse and lightness. And my faith, they are far from being ridiculous...

1978...new luxury cover this time of the Animals title dating from 1965. Once again the copy will not exceed the original but it will be far from deserving, that's clear...

1979...on the Singles side, business picks up somewhat on the Charts side with this title. The group manages to stay in the lead for the moment in a way that is certain to say the least, let's hope it lasts !

1979... this title will already pass a little more unnoticed but that does not call into question the status of sure bet of the group for the moment...

1979...now remains to be seen whether the group will know how to negotiate the transition to the next decade as it should. To be continued as they say...

1980...a new opus that will answer the previous question in a rather positive way. Nothing special but good job nonetheless...

1980... a predominant rock that persists but that the group still manages to evolve with the times. It's already that...

1980...as long as the group manages to stick a minimum to the latest musical trends of the moment, there is no reason to worry more than that...

1981...especially when you see the level of success achieved by this title. The group proves here in a brilliant way that he is still in the race and that he surely does not intend to stop in such a good way !

1981... this title will not be able to compete with its predecessor but will not go unnoticed anyway. The essential is therefore preserved...

1982...revisiting the Doors on one of their flagship titles dating from 1970 is a daring bet to say the least. And as always regarding their covers, the copy will not exceed the original...

1983... the group continues to evolve with the times and it pays in any case in the Charts. We are not talking about mega success but there is success in any case...

1983...the group's last major hit. The adventure will continue thereafter, that's for sure, but the group will never find the same level of success again...

1985... the albums will continue to work a minimum which will allow the group to continue to believe in it always and again...

1986... what is certain is that the base of basic fans remains sufficient to motivate the group as much as possible to continue the adventure as far as possible...

1986...as long as the quality level remains approximately at this level, the group does not have to fear an early exit from the road. Hope it lasts...

1988...the last classified title but certainly not the last title. The group will continue to offer things in the years to come that will be far from devoid of interest...

1988 ... the deceleration is certain year after year and the group will no longer be able to stop it. This does not mean that he will stop there, far from it...

1998... we will lose sight of them for almost 10 years but here they are again anyway. A long absence that they will pay a high price on the Charts side unfortunately...

1998...because this new opus will go squarely under the radar, despite a certain quality. An absence of too long duration which will have marginalized them in an irremediable way...

1998 ... we are still at 3 decades of career which is not nothing. Certainly the best years are behind but the group clings, clings, clings...

2001...they will even try to move on to the next decade, which shows that their level of motivation remains high, to say the least...

2001...and as in music everything is always possible, they tell themselves that a comeback is always possible. Rightly or wrongly, that's something else...

2001...too bad the group didn't know how to reinvent himself as it should have at the start of the new decade. Because things have nevertheless evolved at the musical level for a few years...

2020... there we will completely lose sight of them for almost 19 years ! We thought we would never see them again but it was very bad to know them...

2020...especially since they will achieve the feat of returning to the race on the Albums charts side. Who would have thought that possible, not many people that's for sure...
