Fairytale of New York...

Kirsty MacColl was an English singer-songwriter who began her artistic career playing backing vocals in a punk band called "The Drug Addix".

It is within this group that she is noticed by the label Chiswick Records which signs her and allows her to record her first single "They don't know", we are then in 1979. Single which knows a nice esteem success.

Change of label from 1981 and release of the title "There’s a guy works down the chip shop sweras he’s Elvis". His first real success, taken from his first album “Desperate character”. Album particularly well received by critics.

The following years will be complicated with new label changes and it will be necessary to wait for 1985 to see her return to success. And this thanks to the flagship title “A new England” which will touch the top of the Charts.

Another major success in 1987 when she performed in duet with Shane MacGowan of the Pogues the title "Fairytale of New-York".

She made a strong comeback in 1989 with the critically acclaimed album "Kite". And who will produce the hit single "Days".

As it is successful on average every 2 years, 1991 was no exception with the top single "Walking down Madison" which had a nice run in the Charts.

But who this time will indeed be his last. Because the great adventure unfortunately ended in drama in 2000 when she accidentally died in Mexico while trying to save her son. Which was going to be hit by a boat while diving.

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1979 ... a first light, fresh and airy title as there have been so many during this decade. First test perfectly transformed !

1981 ... we change the decade and we find her in great shape on a title that spins at 200 km/h. Like an aftertaste of America ... In any case, it pays. First notorious success and certainly not the last ...

1983 ... nothing to eat in 1982. She is found the following year again in Country mode. A musical style that she likes at first sight ...

1983 ... everything goes very quickly with her. For now, it's a succession of pieces that spin at the speed of light. Be careful when leaving the road ...

1984 ... it was not until 1984 and THIS title to see her take off and reach the top of the Charts for the first time. And always at a supersonic tempo !

1985 ... we won't remake her again, that's clear. An unchanging style that does not change a bit over the years. Winning bet or risky bet. Hum hum...?

1987 ... new air hole in 1986. It is to come back in force, and especially accompanied, the following year. And what a return ! She signs the biggest success of her career. Thank you the Pogues !

1989 ... the end of the decade which finally rhymes with a slowdown in tempo. A slowdown that paid off since she recorded one of its biggest successes. Like what !

1989 ... ten years after her debut, she is once again found on a light and airy title that is quite simply good

1991 ... another change of decade but above all, a total change of style. It was high time. And the metamorphosis is total. Winning result !

1991 ... a year that was definitely a complete break with previous years. The singer finally explores totally different worlds and it works every time !

1995 ... we end in style with this magnificent duet and this sumptuous ballad which is a luxury cover of Lou Reed's cult title dating from 1972. MA-GIC !
