Damn right it’s good...

Gwen McCrae is an American singer who began her artistic career with the 'Lafayettes' and then with the 'Independents'.

In 1963, she met a sailor named George McCrae when she was only 20 years old, a sailor she married shortly after and with whom she recorded a few songs that went unnoticed to say the least...

It was especially from 1970 that things accelerated when she decided to fly on her own and released a first solo song "Lead me on". A song that gave her a nice critical success and above all began to make people talk about her.

New hit Single "For your love" in 1973 and release of a first eponymous album the following year in 1974, an album with limited success to say the least.

It was the year 1975 that would finally reward her efforts as much as she hoped with the particularly successful release of the huge album "Rockin' chair", an album that would mainly produce the flagship Single of the same name.

A feat that she would never manage to repeat despite the release of other albums and other Singles thereafter.

To discover or rediscover...

Tracks :

1970...first title and already first success, that's what you call a start that was at least ideal. Now it remains to be confirmed that it wasn't just a huge stroke of luck...

1972...as paradoxical as it may seem, she will not succeed in confirming all the good that we think of her with THIS title. An exceptional title that will be covered many times thereafter and bring glory and fortune to the Pet Shop Boys almost 16 years later...

1972...a year 1972 that will not remain as her best Vintage, that's for sure. No title released that year will be ranked...

1973...it's this luxury cover of Ed Townsend's 1958 title that will allow her to get back into the race a little bit. Phew...

1973...new relapse behind with a new title that will 'pass through' as they say. She alternates without stopping title that works and title with non-existent success...

1974...this one will not do better than its predecessor. She really has trouble stabilizing at the top level, it must be said...

1974...she will save her year 1974 in extremis thanks to this new title. There is success certainly but limited success in any case...

1975...afterwards it is better to have limited success than nothing at all. What is clear however is that we will have to be a little more patient for the big take-off...

1975...and all things considered, it didn't take that long. It was with THIS title that she finally started to make a name for herself in a significant way...

1975...we could have thought that with 2 it would be even better but unfortunately that will not be the case. Nice try all the same...

1976...so back solo. A return that benefits her in any case since business picks up with this new title...

1976...a very Dance-oriented year, it must be said. And in my opinion, given the success it was a rather good choice...

1976...she doesn't want to stay on the failure of the previous duo and she does it again some time later. And this time will be the right one, finally...

1978...the relapse will be at least severe behind with a year 1977 empty and only one official title for this year 1978. Only title and with non-existent success moreover...

1978...this title will not be officially released but it would have been a shame to hide it. So here it is, brought back into the spotlight as it should be...

1979...a start to 1979 that doesn't allow the singer to get back in the race and sees her stagnate rather than anything else. Hard law of the trade...

1979...the only good news at the end of the decade is that success now extends to England. On the other hand, nothing more in the United States...

1979...a new title not to be officially released as a Single but not without interest, hence the fact of bringing it back into the spotlight a little...

1981...she had to wait until 1981 to finally see all her efforts rewarded. Here she delivers what will surely remain her reference title with a nice global success !

1981...she will not be able to repeat the feat in the process but it does not matter, the essential is done as they say. Everything else will be just a bonus...

1981...a start to the 80s which saw her particularly at ease and especially particularly inspired, hence a level of success accordingly...

1982...success will no longer be limited to the United States from now on, but there is success all the same. Isn't that the main thing...?

1982...another unofficial title but when quality is the name of the game why not highlight it as it should be...

1982...as usual, every year almost certainly includes a title that is officially released but that will slip through the cracks. For the year 1982, it will be this one...

1984... here she is in luxury cover mode once again, something that has rarely happened to her. Here she revisits Lee Michaels' title dating from 1971 and on principle it was a good thing she did since she managed to make it a minor success but still...

1996...unfortunately all good things must come to an end and what comes next is going to be much more complicated to manage than expected...

1996...that won't stop her from continuing to believe in it, but the pure and simple disappearance of the Charts won't necessarily help...

1996...in any case she continues to hang on at all costs and just for that respect as they say. After that we are not going to lie to each other, the best years are now far behind...

1999...an adventure that continues at all costs but far, very far from the front of the race. But it continues no matter what...

2006...one last title to close an adventure which will have allowed her to make a name for herself as they say and to leave several big-caliber titles in contemporary musical history...
