Blind among the flowers...

The Tourists is an English band originally made up of Dave Stewart, Annie Lennox and Peet Combes, who began life in 1976 under the name 'The Catch'.

Group which produced a first Single “Borderline” the following year in 1977, a Single which went somewhat unnoticed…

They will have to wait 3 more years and the year 1979 to finally see their efforts rewarded thanks to the successful release of their first album which simply bears the name of the group. Album which will offer them their first two hits with the titles “Blind among the flowers” and “The loneliest man in the world”.

A year 1979 which would prove to be exceptional for the group since they released a second album at the same time called “Reality effect”, an album which would be a real global hit. Album which will produce the enormous Single “I only want to be with you”, a Single which will remain as the group’s one and only global top hit.

The group released a second album called “Luminous Basement” the following year in 1980, an album with limited success and which only produced a ‘small’ hit with the title “Don’t say I told you so”.

A poor performance from which the group did not recover and which ended up breaking up shortly after, leaving the field open to Dave Stewart and Annie Lenox to found the group 'Eurythmics'. We know the rest.

To discover or rediscover...

Tracks :

1977...who would imagine for a single second while listening to the first title of this group that 2 of its members will become in a few years 2 major artists of the end of the 20th century...?

1977...not many people that's for sure ! Because at this stage the least we can say is that this group has no major trump cards up its sleeve...

1979...no major assets but potential. So they say to themselves that it might be worth taking the adventure a little further...

1979...and against all odds it will work. Of course we are not talking about global takeoff but about a first success on their native land, that's already it as they say...

1979...this one will already go a little more unnoticed but does not lack interest, that's clear. Might as well bring it to light as much as possible...

1979...just like this one. It must be said that given the few titles that they will ultimately produce, we might as well highlight those that will not be officially released as singles...

1979...then comes THIS title ! Here they deliver a revisited version of one of Dusty Springfield's flagship tracks dating from 1963, much more rock than the original and my goodness it works. Not only does it work, but they will offer themselves a global success that is, to say the least, unexpected and a direct ticket to posterity at the same time. HU-GE !

1980...a sequel which will not really have the same level of success but it at least showed 2 of the members of the group that anything is now possible concerning them...

1980...as a result they feel more and more cramped in this group and the adventure will not last much longer...

1980...an adventure which will not go further than this year 1980 except for 2 of the members who will subsequently set up a duo which will be a landmark in contemporary musical history...

1980...as they say you have to start well one day and it is therefore with this group that the 2 protagonists will have started to make a name for themselves...

1980...well, which doesn't spoil anything, quite the contrary. One last title to say goodbye to this very friendly group of tourists...
