Best years of their lives...

Modern Romance is an English group which was born in 1980 under the leadership of Geoffrey Deane and David Jaymes, two former members of the Leyton Buzzards, a group which will know its hour of glory with the single "Saturday night (Beneath the plastic palm trees)" in 1979.

The group released a first self-titled Single the year of its formation, a single which would go unnoticed to say the least, just like "Tonight" which would be released the following year in 1981.

It is the change of sound style and the passage from electronics to a much more Latin American Dance sound that will allow them to achieve their first major successes. Starting with “Everybody Salsa” and “Ay Ay Ay Ay Moosey” which were also released in 1981, two tracks from their first album “Adventures in Clubland”.

Success confirmed and especially amplified a year later with the release in 1982 of the single "Best years of our lives", single which will remain as the biggest success of all their discography. Flagship Single from the album "Trick of the light" which will be released in 1983.

On the album side, it is the album "Party tonight", which will also be released in 1983, which will remain as their greatest success on the Charts side. Album that will produce two high caliber Singles "High life" and "Don't stop that crazy rhythm".

Other titles will be released later but these will not be able to compete in terms of success with those released previously...

Clips :

1980...a first title that will go under the radar despite a style and a trendy sound. They will therefore have to raise the level of play a little bit more to hope to join the big leagues...

1981...this one won't do any better. The efforts made are not sufficient at first sight and they still have a little work to achieve their career goals...

1981... they finally asked themselves the right questions at first sight because they will win their first ranked title here. How hard work pays off...

1981...a year 1981 which saw them take off in a way that was impressive to say the least. Now everything smiles on them and we imagine that the best is yet to come...

1981...a title that will go somewhat unnoticed because it will only be released in the United States. An astonishing and above all counterproductive strategy...

1982...business resumes with this title. A title that will undoubtedly remain as one of their most emblematic even if it will not be their biggest success in the Charts...

1982...decidedly, it's a title that works and a title that passes 'through'. Especially since this one will not be able to take as an excuse a release only in the United States, hence a real underperformance...

1982...they decide to revisit here a title by Louiguy dating from 1950, a daring bet to say the least. And as surprising as it may seem, their revisited version will know a nice success of esteem...

1982... it is with THIS title that the group will reach the semblance of consecration after which he has been running since its beginnings. And always in this style which differentiates them from the masses as much as it marginalizes them...

1982...covers follow one another at an accelerated pace. They revisit here the title of Freda Payne dating from 1970 and even if this title will not interest many people it is far from demerit. Really unfortunate...

1983... the group is constantly yoyoing in the Charts, it is clear. They will succeed in returning once again to the front of the stage thanks to this title and remind in passing that they are still there...

1983...a most favorable start to the year 1983 since they achieved a new success with this title. The group continues to unroll quietly with downs and ups as they say...

1983...and 3 ! Three hits just for this year 1983, a feat that it is good to underline all the same. Especially since this 3rd hit is all in finesse and lightness, an operating mode for the less unprecedented coming from them...

1983... after the title released only in the United States, here comes the title released only in Japan ! Who says targeted output says the most limited results...

1983... in the end a year 1983 which will have shown once again that this group has a certain talent. Enough in any case to stay at the highest level...

1984...new luxury cover, this time with a Temptations title dating from 1971. A revisited version with limited success but success all the same...

1984...we're not going to lie to each other, the best years are now behind them. This does not prevent them from continuing the adventure and on the principle who would blame them...

1984...as long as they appear in the Charts at least, why would they throw in the towel prematurely ? Might as well try to go to the maximum of the maximum...

1985...unfortunately all the best things come to an end. And this year 1985 will be the last for the group at the top level...

1985...they decide to revisit here the title of Baltimora released the same year. A version that will be far, very far from equaling the original...

2019...we thought the case was definitely over and here they are back in a totally unexpected way in this year 2019. A return that will unfortunately go completely unnoticed...
