Lipps Inc. is an American group formed in the late 1970s in Minneapolis by Steven Greenberg.
The group released their first album "Mouth to mouth" at the end of 1979, an album which contains the first single released "Rock it" but which also and above all contains one of the biggest hits of the last 30 years, namely the HUGE "Funky town".
Single flagship which represents by itself (whatever it might share the title with another single flagship namely "Video killed the radio star" of the group The Buggles), the missing link between 2 major currents, namely the current "Rock" from the 70s to the more" Pop/Dance" of the 80s.
It will sell more than two million copies and will be certified Platinum disc.
It will of course be impossible for the group to equal such a colossal success thereafter despite the release of several other singles.
The adventure will stop definitively in 1985 to make way for the legend.
To discover or rediscover.

Clips :
1979 ... very Disco debut and which leaves nothing to presume a sequel that will upset the musical world for years to come ...
1980 ... the Missing Link ! Surely one of the most important titles of the end of the XXth century. The sound, the rhythm, everything is new and foreshadows an absolutely exceptional wave of musical creation to come. MO-NU-MEN-TAL !
1980 ... how to exist after such a title ? Mission almost impossible, it's clear. Hence a title that will go almost completely unnoticed ...
1980 ... this one will do a little better but will manage to save the furniture only in Charts Dance. The group is mounted too quickly and too high and everything that follows now has frankly difficult to exist as the bar has been raised. Cruel paradox ...
1981 ... a nice title but nothing more. The group can not find the great inspiration he had on 'Funkytown'. It's not easy to renew, it's clear. Especially when you are close to the stars ...
1981 ... suddenly the sound changes. No more Funky attitude, welcome to the New-Wave. The group allows himself to take back one of the flagship titles of Ace dating from 1975 and my faith the result is all up to par. With the key a new planetary top hit. All good !
1981 ... a sequel that we will describe as...disconcerting ! We go from one extreme to another, this time with a title that will go completely unnoticed ...
1981 ... in an ocean of Dance tracks, the group opens an Intimist parenthesis not without interest, that's clear. A daring bet and above all a lost bet. The title will not even be ranked. Frankly damage ...
1982 ... back to pure and hard Dance. Hunt the natural, it comes back at a gallop ! A return through the back door with a level of success in Charts flush with the daisies unfortunately ...
1982 ... the sound changes again. Adaptation to the new trends of the mandatory and beneficial moment with a significant return to success
1983 ... a nice title but which begins to show seriously the limits of the group in terms of inspiration. It is clear that at this rate, the group is not likely to find the top of the Charts before long ...
1983 ... in the same vein. The group's decline is now underway and nothing, and no one, can stop it. Tough law of the trade ...
1983 ... the group still believes in it but there is more than him to believe it. The level is really no longer enough to hope to rise to the surface ...
