Aotearoa...

Jenny Morris is an Australian-New Zealand singer-songwriter who began her career at the age of 15 performing at the Anderson Theater Restaurant in Hamilton. But also, and above all, a year later in the group 'How's Your Father', a finalist group in the 'National Battle of the band's' in 1976.

We find her in 1978 in a new all-female group called 'Wide Mouthed Frogs'. Group which will know a nice success of esteem…

Then we find her two years later in 1980 within the 'Crocodiles', an ephemeral group which will all the same know its hour of glory with the album "Tears", at least in New Zealand.

The solo career as for it starts from the year 1981 with the release of a first single "Puperty blues", single which will not go unnoticed and launch the young singer on the front of the stage. A highlight that she unfortunately failed to confirm with the release in 1982 of the single "Little by little".

New adventure together the following year in 1983 within the 'QED' group, an adventure that will last two years and produce several high-caliber titles.

Back in solo mode from 1985 with the release of the single "Get some humor", a single which puts her back in the race. Then return again to several this time on the soundtrack of the mini series 'Dancing Daze' in 1986, soundtrack where she will participate in two titles. Two titles that will go somewhat unnoticed…

A year 1986 not so negative as that since she will release a third title "You're gonne get hurt", a title which will allow her to achieve her biggest success to date on the singles side.

It was the year 1987 that would see her rise to power in an impressive way with the release of her first album "Body and soul", an album with significant success and which would allow her to win 3 major successes, mainly " You I know”.

Success confirmed and amplified two years later with the release in 1989 of the album "Shiver", an album which produced no less than 5 singles between 1989 and 1990. With the flagship single "She has to be loved" in 1989.

The consecration, the real one, comes in 1991 with the release of the album "Honeychild", album which will remain as the highest ranked of all, in particular thanks to the enormous single "Break in the weather".

Other albums will be released later, but none will meet with success equivalent to those released previously. This will not prevent the singer from experiencing some occasional successes all the same on the Singles side…

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1981...it's a soundtrack that will give her her first chance to talk about her solo. Admittedly, the film will not leave an indelible mark in history, but its title will give her her first classified title. An ideal start...

1982...the sequel will unfortunately go much more unnoticed. Too bad because it all started pretty well...

1985...it will take her 3 years to climb back up the slope and manage to come back a little bit to the front of the stage. And yet another discreet return...

1986...she really struggles to stabilize and alternates titles that work and those that pass 'through'. This one would rather belong to the second category...

1986... this one on the other hand would rather belong to the 1st category ! Afterwards, it remains to be seen whether she will continue to alternate the good and the less good or finally succeed in moving up a gear...

1987...no straight answer for the moment but we feel that something rather positive is happening on the planet Morris. Let's give her a little more time...

1987... you just had to be a little patient to see her finally take off. It is now done from this title and the sequel will prove it for sure...

1987...even if the success is concentrated mainly on the Southern sphere, the hits now follow one another at an impressive speed to say the least. Like what, not much was enough...

1989... the rise in power is linear and increasingly positions the singer as one of the sure values of the moment. Just have to last now...

1989...a rise in power which accelerates with this title which will undoubtedly remain as one of its greatest successes. The singer now unrolls with an ease that is obvious to say the least !

1989...certainly she won't get a top hit with every title, but the main thing is to manage to stay ahead of the pack, which is the case with this title...

1990...the 80s enabled her to emerge and rise inexorably but it was the 90s that would consecrate her. Not during this year 90 but it could be that the next one is the good one...

1990...even if the year 90 will not remain as its best Vintage, it at least allows her to stay in contact with the best and to prepare a sequel which promises to be most favorable for her...

1990...here she revisits the title of Erma Franklin dating from 1967 and the result is not devoid of interest, far from it. For the big fireworks, we'll have to wait for the next title though...

1991... the title of consecration, the real one, here it is ! She will win here the biggest success of her career and suddenly offer a direct ticket for posterity. HU-GE !

1991...a timeless title that literally floats in the air. The art of moving from one extreme to another, to say the least...

1992...she will have reached the peak of her career during the previous year and it is therefore obvious that she can only come down from the mountain now. Such is life as they say...

1992... it is clear that the best years are now behind her but what she will continue to offer largely holds up. It's already that...

1992... the adventure will therefore continue but far, very far from the top of the Charts. She will have all the same had several beautiful years which will have allowed her to enter the musical history of this end of the 20th century. Isn't that the main thing...?

1993...it is clear that the front of the pack is slipping away title after title, year after year. She still appears a little bit in the Charts but more and more in the depths...

1994...she continues to believe in it no matter what. And for the moment history tends to prove her right, which can only encourage her to continue...

1995 ... certainly the production of titles weakens from year to year but she is always there in any case. It remains to be seen whether she will be able to maintain herself at the highest level for a long time like this...

1995...another nice title that deserved a better fate in the Charts. Because the revisited version of Belinda Carlisle which will be released a year later in 1976 will know a much more favorable fate...

1995... so far so good, no forced exit in sight. She manages to stay the course even if it starts to blow harder and harder...

1996...this time, however, it's seriously starting to smell scorched. It may well be that this year 1996 will be the last major year...

2001...we will lose sight of her for almost 5 years and here she is again at the very beginning of the 2000s. A return with finesse that will allow her to land a last very small hit...

2002...her first unranked title in quite a while. An indicator which shows that this year 2002 will indeed be the year which will mark the end of an adventure which will have nevertheless consecrated her as one of the artists who counted at the end of the 20th century...
