Not much info about Matchbox other than the fact that it's an English band formed in 1971 and originally composed of Iain Terry, Fred Poke, Jimmy Redhead and Wiffle Smith.
A group that will remain mainly in the musical history of the 80s for the high-caliber single "Midnite dynamos" released in 1980.
As such alone, we had to devote this article to them.
To discover or rediscover.

Clips :
1975 ... beginnings to say the least confidential. The style, like the sound, are already there but the musical niche they have chosen is far from being unanimous in the mid-1970s ...
1979 ... they will have to wait 4 more years to finally experience a first success worthy of the name. A success to say the least, unexpected in view of their completely offbeat style ...
1980 ... the beginning of the 1980s confirms the public's enthusiasm for the group. While electronic music literally submerges the planet, they do not ask questions and chart their course ...
1980 ... a dynamic of success that does not weaken an Iota with this new title. Like what, during the 80s, everything was possible and all styles coexisted !
1980 ... a year 1980 which sees them align the hits in a totally bluffing way. While everything about them might seem 'has been', it's the public who ultimately judges. And then, the public follows without problem ...
1980 ... an astonishing and above all successful version of Judy Garland's flagship title dating from 1939. One of their very rare titles to be classified in the 'emotional' register ...
1981 .... we suspected that with such a style, the great adventure was not going to last for ages. The group will manage to stay afloat during this year 1981 but with a level of success in free fall ...
1981 ... the group tries everything for everything and tries to adapt to the latest trends of the moment. Happy initiative, but the public has already gone elsewhere ...
1981 ... they will at least have had the merit of showing us another facet of their talent. It starts from a good feeling but it will not change the situation unfortunately ...
1982 ... in an incomprehensible way the group finds its basic style. With the consequence of an outright disappearance of radars ...
1983 ... an adventure that ends with this last title. Anyway, a nice adventure for one of the most atypical groups of the early 1980s
